Brookland Partners has one of the largest specialist and dedicated teams in real estate investment banking.The team comprises individuals from a variety of backgrounds including investment banking, investment management, wealth management, accountancy, rating agency and legal. The team members possess significant expertise in debt sales and acquisitions, real estate investment, capital raising, work-out strategies for defaulted loans and asset/property management. The team has experience in multiple jurisdictions, in particular in the UK, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Switzerland and the Middle East.

Nassar Hussain

Managing Partner

  • Nassar has in excess of 25 years of experience in real estate investment banking, real estate investment and the legal profession predominantly within leading multi-national institutions. He established Brookland Partners in 2009 to provide much needed specialist and independent real estate investment banking services to the European real estate markets during the global credit crisis
  • Nassar has deep product knowledge of and significant industry expertise in real estate finance, real estate investment and development, real estate debt advisory and restructuring/work-outs. During his career he has deployed in excess of €20bn of capital into real estate transactions
  • Nassar previously worked in investment banking including Merrill Lynch where he was a managing director responsible for a number of real estate product areas across EMEA.  In early 2007, Nassar exited all his European real estate positions (with significant gains) and resigned from Merrill Lynch to pursue a career in principal investments
  • Prior to his career in investment banking, Nassar was a solicitor and practiced at Clifford Chance in London for several years in the real estate and securitisation practice areas
  • Nassar is a member of the Board of Advisers of CREFC Europe and was Chair of the CMBS 2.0 Committee where he led the issuance of the CMBS 2.0 Principles on best practice for structuring new CMBS transactions
  • Nassar has been involved in industry consultations with bodies such as the Bank of England and the European Banking Authority.  He regularly publishes articles and chapters in industry publications and books and often speaks at industry conferences

Steve Clark

Principal

  • Steve has more than 30 years of trading experience and has had a profitable track record during every year of his career
  • He founded Omni Partners LLP in 2004, a US- and UK-regulated alternative investment manager and has been responsible for the growth of the Omni business since its inception
  • More recently, Omni Partners LLP acquired specialist lending platform Amicus which focuses primarily on UK short-term property lending and is currently awaiting approval for its banking license application
  • Steve was formerly the co-head of international proprietary equity trading for Nomura International, where he set up the bank’s first European proprietary desk and managed a highly profitable proprietary trading book. Prior to that, Steve managed international equity trading at both NatWest Markets and Shearson Lehman

Ausaf Abbas

Senior Advisor

  • Until recently Ausaf Abbas was Head of Sales and Marketing at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management Limited. He joined Morgan Stanley in August 2007 after a 21 year career at Merrill Lynch, where his last role was Head of EMEA Global Private Client
  • Ausaf joined Merrill Lynch in 1985 as an Investment Banker in London where he was extensively involved in the establishment and management of various country funds, which allowed international investors to access the emerging equity markets of Asia
  • In 1990 he moved to Hong Kong to investment banking coverage of India, where he managed some of the earliest transactions by leading Indian corporates to access the international capital markets for both debt & equity offerings. Ausaf moved to Singapore in 1995, and was appointed Chief Administrative Officer of the Asia Pacific Region in 1998. He was then named Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific/Australasia, in July 2000
  • He joined Global Private Client (GPC) in 2001 and was initially based in Japan. In October 2002 he was appointed Head of EMEA GPC and moved to London
